In the process of making this bigger turtle shell, I had to figure out how to shape it. Since the top part was thicker than the bottom, I had no problem getting it to keep its shape. On the other hand, the bottom part of the shell was thin and very flimsy. I could get it to keep a roundish shape like a sea turtle. I ended up rolling up a tube of news paper and stuck it in between the two pieces. I was surprised to see that it actually made the shell look the way I wanted it to look. I also decided to make it hollow in order to easily attach the legs and the soon to come heads. |

Once again, my pal Paul has saved the day with his technique on making snake heads. I was very irritated while trying to make the snake head thingies for my turtle-hydra. So Paul showed me this technique where he uses his pinkies to make a socket for the eyes. He also squished in the head so it looked less like a microphone and sorta more like a snake. I now have 2 other heads that I have created by using his method. |
