The new and good looking pot (Unfired one) VS. the uber ugly thing I made last year (Glazed one). It like literally broke my phone camera after I took the picture. | We have began our new project in ceramics class. We must create two different pieces that interact with one another in order to receive credit. I have decided to create a pot of honey along with the wand that goes with it. I was stuck on how I was going to make the pot, but then I decided to look back to my previous year in ceramics and remembered a building technique that could help. I remember our teacher Mrs. Barnett showing us how to build things using coils. I remembered how I built a pot last year and decided to use the same method in order to make this one. I have to say, I am much better at using this method than I was last year. I have managed to make my honey pot almost twice as big and a lot more even. I was actually trying to make a similar pot last year, but it didn't come out so well... I don't mean to brag but, I got skillz. |

Since I have started this project, I have been taking two steps forward and one step back. I find myself constantly checking the structure and the placement of the coils every once and a while. I do so in order to make sure it comes out the way I picture it in my head. It has been working. I have found many errors that I have managed to fix like a coil that has begun to fall into the pot. After carful examining of my pot, I add more to it, and examine it once again. I am constantly trying to predict how the shape will come out when I add more coils, and stepping back to examine it has been a huge help in the process. I have managed to form the shape of the pot exactly how i've imagined it. Well, maybe not EXACTLY how I imagined it, but it's close enough.
